Joliet Correctional Center

Joliet Correctional Center aka Old Joliet Prison in Joliet, Illinois, was in operation from 1858 to 2002. Both criminals and prisoners of war were confined here during the Civil War. By 1872, the population had reached 1,239—a record number for a single prison.

Prison cells in East Cell House. In 1924, Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb were given life sentences to be served at Joliet for their heinous actions in "the crime of the century" – kidnapping and murdering Robert Franks. (JCC 1)
